With Mai Men Dong, for a dry cough due to Dryness and Heat injuring the Lungs.
With Chuan Bei Mu, for wheezing and cough from externally contracted Lung disorders, non-productive cough from Lung Deficiency disorders and coughing of thick, yellow sputum due to Phlegm-Fire.
Rx. Asparagi Tian Men Dong 5-15g Nourishes Kidney Yin, clears Lung Heat, sedates Fire, moistens the Lungs, and resolves Phlegm.
With Mai Men Dong, for a dry cough, thirst, and other symptoms due to Yin Deficiency and injured fluids.
Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam Zhu Ru 6-10g Clears Heat and transforms Hot Phlegm.
Per. Citri Reticulatae Chen Pi 3-9g Dries Dampness and transforms Phlegm
Bul. Fritillariae Cirrhosae Chuan Bei Mu 3-12g Clears Heat, transforms Phlegm, descends Qi, stops cough and nourishes and moistens the Lungs.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 3-12g Clears Heat, reduces Fire and drains Damp-Heat.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 3-10g Warms the Lungs, stops cough and reduces the toxicity of other herbs.
With Da Zao, prevents Phlegm accumulation.
Poria Fu Ling 9-18g Promotes urination, leaches out Dampness, strengthens the Spleen and harmonizes the Middle Jiao.
Fr. Jujube Da Zao 10-30g Tonifies the Spleen and Stomach, augments Qi, nourishes the Blood and moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Gan Cao 3-14g Moistens the Lungs, resolves Phlegm, stops cough, clears Heat, relieves Fire toxicity, moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs and guides the herbs to all twelve channels.
With Xing Ren and Chuan Bei Mu, for Heat induced dry cough.
Cx. Mori Sang Bai Pi 6-18g Drains Heat from the Lungs, stops cough and calms wheezing.
With Huang Qin, drains Heat from the Lungs, and stops cough and wheezing.
Rx. Ophiopogonis Mai Men Dong 6-15g Moistens the Lungs, nourishes Yin and stops cough.
Rx. Platycodi Jie Geng   Opens the Lungs, spreads Lung Qi and expels Phlegm.
With Gan Cao and Huang Qin, disseminates Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, resolves toxicity and expels pus for productive cough with hoarseness and pain and swelling of the throat.
Fr. Schisandrae Wu Wei Zi 3-9g Astringes leakage of Lung Qi and stops cough.
Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin 3-18g Clears Heat and dries Dampness.
